A listening and practice aid
Tanpura.online is an independent browser-based music practice reference. It is intended to help users find a steady drone and explore musical concepts. It is not a replacement for a physical tanpura, a musician's ear, qualified instruction, or calibrated pitch-measurement equipment.
Audio playback limitations
The player loops selected licensed recordings of acoustic tanpuras and an electronic tanpura machine. It may use pitch-shifting, crossfades, and tonal adjustments to match your settings. Changing playback rate affects both pitch and plucking pace and can change the original timbre. We do not claim there is a separate original instrument recording for every note.
Playback quality depends on your speakers, headphones, browser, and device. Background playback may stop or behave differently on phones when a tab becomes inactive or a screen locks.
Educational content
Articles and explanations on this site are for general musical learning. Terminology, intonation, notation, and tuning conventions vary across musical traditions, schools, and instruments. Although we try to check sources and correct errors, we cannot guarantee that every explanation suits every practice context.
Sources, brands, and external websites
We provide attribution for original recordings and relevant photographs. Please see Sound Credits and credits within individual articles. Mentioning performers, manufacturers, music schools, or third-party sites does not imply their endorsement or sponsorship. Linked external resources may change without our knowledge.
