Who we are
Tanpura.online is an independent music practice and educational website maintained by Advay Varma. This Privacy Policy covers the website at tanpura.online, including the English and Hindi players and our article pages.
Playing the tanpura requires no user account, form submission, or microphone permission. Our player plays audio recordings in your browser; it does not record your voice.
Information that may be processed
- Website and device information: hosting, security and analytics providers may process IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, referring pages, approximate location derived from IP, and visit times in order to serve, secure, and understand site usage.
- Information you provide: if you email or phone us, we receive the contact details and message you choose to share, and use them to address your enquiry.
- Player settings: selected notes, sound mode, volume, and other settings work in your current page session. You can intentionally create a shareable settings URL; anyone you share that link with can see the settings in its URL parameters. An account is not required.
We do not ask you to upload audio recordings, financial details, or identification documents to operate the player.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Tag Manager to manage website measurement tags. Depending on which tags are configured, Google analytics technologies may set or read cookies and use similar identifiers to understand traffic and interactions. You can control cookies through browser settings. Blocking optional measurement technologies may affect analytics but should not prevent basic use of the tanpura player.

Advertising technologies
We may support the website with advertising. If advertising is enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar identifiers to display and measure ads based on visits to this site or other websites. Hosting, fonts, and external media
We use Cloudflare Pages to host the site. Cloudflare may process connection and security information; see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. Our pages may load typefaces from Google Fonts, and our learning articles may display externally hosted Wikimedia Commons photographs. These providers may receive routine connection information, such as an IP address, when your browser requests their resources.
Our audio sources are attributed on the Sound Credits page. When you follow external links, those other websites control their own data practices.
Why information is used and how long it is kept
Information is used to deliver and protect the site, understand performance, respond to messages, and, if active, provide advertising. Hosting and analytics records are retained under the relevant service settings and providers' retention practices. We keep correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to respond or meet applicable obligations. Providers may process data outside your country.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can choose not to contact us, adjust browser privacy controls, and manage personalized Google ads using the links above. Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or limits on processing of personal information. This is a general music-learning website and is not specifically directed to children. We do not offer accounts or intentionally solicit personal information from children through forms.
